Backing Up Media Files

A powerful feature of MediaMover is its Backup function which allows you to backup or archive media files belonging to individual Avid projects. There are two requirements critical to understanding and using the Backup function.

1. A project's media must be moved Offline before it can be backed up.
2. Your settings in the Media Folders tab will determine what media files are available to backup.
For example, if you have three media volumes named Media1, Media2 and Media3 but only Media1 is selected in the Volumes list in the Media Folders tab, you will only be able to backup media from the volume Media1. Any media on Media2 or Media3 will not be available for backup until the volumes are selected in the Volumes list and their media folders have been found by MediaMover.
This makes the backup function extremely flexible allowing you to select exactly which volumes, projects and files to backup.

Here's the Backup process:
1. Be sure the volumes and media folders you want to backup media from are selected in the Media Folders tab. See Finding Media Folders for more information.
2. Select the Offline Media tab in the main application window.
3. Check any projects you want to backup in the Project list. You can select or deselect individual files in the Media File list if you choose.
4. Click the Backup Project Media... button and MediaMover will display a window allowing you to choose the target location to backup media files to.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure you have enough disk space to complete the backup process. MediaMover will display how much disk space is needed for the projects and files you have chosen. If necessary use the volume and media folder settings in the Media Folders tab to break your backup into small enough pieces to fit your available disk space.
